Sandi Prentis, September resident artist

Sand Prentis

Sandi Prentis is from the  state of North Carolina in the United States and has been a student and teacher of all forms of art including pottery, figurative art, landscape and portrait oil painting for many years.  She was educated and honed her skills at the National Academy of Design and Fine Art and The Art Students League, both in New York City and at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. She spends part of every autumn in Italy.  Twenty years ago she started The Studio School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she teaches and guides both adults and children in the basic skills of drawing and painting and ultimately in the proper technique to create a balanced, creative, interesting work of art. Her primary emphasis is to create an accurate representation of the influence of light upon the subject.

Artist Statement
“Painting is about observing and recording the subject with proper lighting contrasts and in a manner to create an emotional response to the painting and not just a recorded picture. I am influenced by Bouguereau, Sargent, and Sorolla among many others.  My long career as an artist and as a teacher of art stems from a passionate love for painting and a desire and commitment to open the doors for my students to enjoy that same love and satisfaction of a job well done.”
